During 1991 the Garden State Siberian Husky Club was beginning its Siberian Husky rescue efforts.  In December 1991 Nikki became the first Siberian Husky rescued by GSSHC Rescue.  Her age was estimated to be about two years.  She weighed only 22 pounds, and was terribly frightened and insecure.

She came to us from the Gloucester County, NJ shelter.  Nikki was rescued from the shelter only hours before she was to be put down because she had been there 45 days, no one claimed her and the shelter had no room to keep her since additional dogs were coming in every day.

While she was not originally intended to be kept by us, circumstances dictated that we keep her.  The individual who was to take Nikki decided he didn't want her about 30 minutes before he was to pick her up.  There was no other choice -- she stayed with us.  It was obvious that her original owners abused her and it took some time to gain her trust.  Our two other Siberians, Kodi and Spunky, played a large role in Nikki's becoming comfortable in her new surroundings.  For the first time, I believe, she had humans who cared for and loved her, and other dogs to play with and hang out with as she explored her new, forever home.

Right up to the end Nikki was a very healthy, though less active, girl.  She spent her time patrolling the yard and playing with her buddies, Jasper and Frankie.  Nikki was a wonderful girl who gave that unconditional love we all talk about and she is dearly missed.

God speed, gentle Nikki.  Wear your Silver Harness with pride as you romp and play with your brothers Kodi, Spunky and Jasper.
